Ryu Recognition/Certification and Official GMAU Sanction

Ryu recognition is designed to enable Christians to develop an eclectic system of the martial arts in an environment free from eastern mysticism and yet provide a degree of accountability and propriety so that the cause of Christ will not be harmed. Objectives are:

• To allow for the recognition of a unique system or style of the martial arts;
• To identify requirements for the certification of a new ryu; and
• To provide Christian certification for those seeking a level of authentication with or without the sanction of secular recognition.

The application form for Ryu Recognition identifies the documentation process required by the GMAU for certification. Ryu certification is currently awarded at GMAU National Seminars in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Indianapolis, Indiana.

School Charter

Certified GMAU instructors may apply for official organizational membership. This membership (School Charter) provides the instructor the opportunity to award GMAU rank to his/her students. Chartered schools are also listed on the GMAU website with complete contact information for potential students in your area and official referrals (soon to be implemented). Although these schools will vary from small clubs to large academies, each school must follow the standards of the GMAU:

• A certified GMAU instructor must run each school.
• Each school must be sponsored by a church, which adheres to the fundamentals of the faith as identified in the "Doctrinal Position" of the GMAU.
• A letter from the pastor must be on record with the GMAU. written on church letterhead and indicating that the school is a ministry of the local. The role of the church is to keep the school spiritually accountable. Hence, the school must make a report to its sponsor church at least once a year regarding the current state of the ministry.
• Each school must teach a martial arts system that has been approved by the GMAU. The system taught may either be a supported ryu, or another system that meets the "GMAU Belt Ranking Standards" (spiritual, mental and physical growth for each belt level). Each school is independent of the GMAU.
• Membership in the GMAU shall not be construed to render the local school liable for acts or representations of the GMAU, or vice-versa. Each party shall hold the other harmless from any liability to the other.
• Each school is authorized to use the logo or name indicating affiliation, on any promotion certificate or other device. However, the GMAU shall retain all rights and interests in its name and use thereof.

Annual School Charter—$25
